Residents to see more Texas electricity rate options

Author: Adam Cain | Updated:

Residents and businesses in San Antonio, Texas, will soon have yet another option when it comes to buying electricity, and this time it will come from a new player in the solar energy field, Global Atlanta reports.

According to the news source, OCI Solar Power LLC, owned by Atlanta’s OCI Enterprises, recently announced it plans to partner with Texas’ CPS Energy to produce more than 400 megawatts of solar power – enough to provide electricity to 70,000 homes in San Antonio. The project is expected to be wildly successful, as OCI’s parent company, South Korea’s OCI Company Ltd., has become an international leader in green energy, and a major producer of a key ingredient in solar photovoltaic panels.

“This project will not only serve as a public-private partnership model for communities around the country but also a blueprint for building a new energy development hub,” said Tony Dorazio, president of OCI Solar Power.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, Texas is ranked among the top seven states for concentrating solar power, with West Texas alone estimated to have enough solar power to generate as much as 149 megawatt hours of electricity.
