Constellation Energy expands on growing customer base

Author: Adam Cain | Updated:

Constellation Energy, a retail energy provider and subsidiary of Exelon, announced on June 14 that it has expanded its offices in Houston to accommodate for its growing number of customers, which doubled when the company acquired two fellow retail energy suppliers.

According to Electric Light and Power, the office now houses more than 600 employees from Constellation as well as the two companies it took over, StarTex Power and MXenergy. Together, the three companies have customers in 15 states, including Texas.

The new office is the headquarters for Constellation’s sales and operations teams, which oversee many products and services for customers, such as energy supply, energy efficiency and green energy products. After acquiring both companies, Constellation’s customer base grew to more than 1 million. On June 1, MXenergy officially became Constellation Energy Power Choice.

According to The Wall Street Journal, parent company Exelon has been active in states with energy deregulation laws, such as Illinois and Pennsylvania, for years. As the retail electricity market changes, the company plans to remain competitive and change with it, said Exelon CEO Chris Crane in a recent interview.
