PG&E raises awareness of transition to state-mandated electricity service pricing

Author: Adam Cain | Updated:

Pacific Gas and Electric announced on June 12, 2012, that it has begun a campaign to help small businesses learn about the impending state-mandated electricity pricing program, which could allow companies to save on their business electricity rates.

Per the terms of a California Public Utilities Commission decision, small and medium-sized businesses will soon begin time-of-use pricing, which will allow companies to consume electricity when it is priced the lowest. The utility hopes to better align prices with generation costs, and to make an environmental impact by reducing the need for fossil-fuel powered plants.

“Through an extensive program of customer letters, person-to-person outreach, local and community events, web-based seminars and targeted online advertising, PG&E is reaching out to help our business customers understand this significant change so they can better manage their energy usage and potentially save money,” said Helen Burt, senior vice president and chief customer officer at PG&E.

PG&E’s campaign is one of many options that have been created since California revisited its energy policies, giving residents many new options when it comes to buying their electricity.
