Eversource and National Grid Complete Joint Project

Eversource Energy and National Grid recently completed the Interstate Reliability Project (IRP). This project cost approximately $483 million and included upgrades to stations and the installation of new transmission line which extends 75 miles through Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. These improvements will allow for more reliable service to both residential and business customers throughout New England.

Additionally, the Interstate Reliability Project strengthed the environmental impact of both utilities. With the IRP project coming to completion, future renewable resources will be able to come to areas that Eversource Energy and National Grid could not reach before. Environmental impact was also seen during construction were farmland and wildlife habitats were protected.

“As we look to connect new energy sources, stabilize costs for customers and maintain the reliable service needed to underpin the economic vitality of our communities and our region, a robust, resilient transmission system is a must,” said Rudy Wynter, President and Chief Operating Officer of National Grid’s FERC-regulated Businesses.  “The completion of this project marks a major step towards achieving that goal.”
