Champion Energy expands to Maryland

Author: Adam Cain | Updated:

Champion Energy Services, one of the fastest-growing retail electricity providers in the country, announced in April that the company has begun offering lower electricity rates to customers across Maryland.

The electricity company now provides competitive electricity prices in three utility company service areas across the state: Pepco in the central part of the state, Delmarva Power & Light Company on the Delmarva Peninsula and The Potomac Edison Company in the western part of the state.

“Our entry into Maryland’s deregulated electricity markets is a logical next step for Champion Energy,” Scott Fordham, president and chief executive officer at Champion, said in a statement. “We look forward to building on a successful track record in the Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ohio markets as Champion Energy again extends its footprint, and our company is excited to bring competitive rates, exceptional customer care and flexible solutions to commercial and industrial customers across Maryland.”

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Maryland paid the 13th-highest electricity rates in the country in 2010, making electricity deregulation an important part of the state’s energy future.
